Calf House
The Single Arch building pictured below is 30’ (9.1m) wide by 120’ (36.4m) long and is on 7’ high posts. The posts are 12’ apart with a beam running between them to support the trusses at 6’ bay spacing. The new building is next to a 62’ (9.4m) wide x 120’ (36.4m) long Legend building which was installed in August 2008. The shadows and light spots on the larger building appear to be holes. They are but they are factory formed holes to create ridge vents for ventilation.

The building is split into three parts. One for young calves with a milk machine in the centre and two sections for older calves at either end. The west side has a 1m gap between the concrete panel and the building which runs the length of the building to allow for airflow. There are 4m high x 3.5m wide entrances at each end with sheeted gates and Galebreaker Rollersceens. The east side of the building has an internal feed trough and is open to 7’ high so the animals can be feed and bedded by machine along the side.
